Oklahoma City acquired Walker from Boston in June in Brad stevens‘first major change to the roster as the Celtics’ president of basketball operations. While the deal was seen as a pay cut, with the Thunder given a first-round pick for playing Walker, a report last week said the OKC believed it might be possible to fire him to another team for an asset. These efforts were ultimately unsuccessful.
This decision will provide more playing time for the young Thunder ball handlers (in addition to Shai Gilgeous-Alexandre), including Theo Maledon and Josh Giddey.
Walker, meanwhile, is now on track to clear waivers on Sunday, assuming the Thunder officially released him at 5:00 p.m. ET today. Once he has authorized the waivers, the Veteran Guard will sign with the Knicks.

The four-time All-Star will join a Knicks backcourt which also includes Derrick Rose, Emmanuel Quickley, Alec burks, and second round pick Miles McBride.
